Police: 18-year-old charged after running into Braintree officer in getaway car

A St. Louis police officer is accused of driving a van too roughly to punish two prisoners, court documents claim.

BRAINTREE, Mass. — An 18-year-old Medford man was arrested and charged with a litany of crimes after Braintree police said he ran down an officer trying to get him to stop.

According to police, Anthony Bynum was driving a getaway car for an organized larceny at the South Shore Plaza. Police say when a group grabbed as much merchandise as they could and jumped into the car with Bynum, who took off and rand down a Braintree Police officer who was standing in front of the car signaling for him to stop.

Police say Bynum took off and swerved through traffic on Common Street -- hitting a Braintree Police cruiser in the process -- before running into an SUV head-on.

Police arrested Bynum and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapons, operating to endanger, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, operating with a suspended license, larceny over $1,200.

A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy have been charged as well, but were not in the car when it took off.

Two people in the SUV were injured in the crash.
