New Hampshire man extradited to Boston to face murder charge

BOSTON — A New Hampshire man is in custody for the shooting death of a 29-year-old in East Boston earlier this year.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Jeremy Menendez of Nashua was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in East Boston Municipal Court on Wednesday.

Authorities say Menendez shot and killed Taquise Johnson in the East Boston neighborhood on June 1 after the two men walked into a darkened area shortly before midnight.

Menendez was extradited from New Hampshire Tuesday after Boston police tracked him to Nashua.

His attorney didn't immediately comment. His next court date is in October.

Prosecutors also say 23-year-old Kavara Rivera of Chelsea has been indicted on charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder and lying to investigators after she drove Menendez from the scene.
