New Hampshire man dies in Chelmsford car crash

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Police say a New Hampshire man has died after his car went off a Massachusetts highway and into a body of water.

State police responded to Route 3 southbound in Chelmsford at about 5 p.m. Sunday after getting a report about a single-vehicle crash.

The car went off the right side of the roadway into the water.

An off-duty trooper who reported the crash entered the water to try and help the driver.

The 63-year-old man from Bristol, New Hampshire, was taken by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His name was not immediately released.

The preliminary investigation shows the driver may have had a medical incident before the crash.
