An alert went out to town residents in Scituate after two women were bitten by a fox on Thursday.

A man said his wife was attacked around 5 a.m. Thursday morning in front of her driveway.

"Joan was on her way to work, and the garage door opened," Steve said. "This fox came out of the bushes and attacked her."

Steve's quick-thinking wife fought off the fox, using resources at hand to stop the attack.

"She started screaming for me, she just got a scratch and she's fine," Steve said. "With a coffee cup and her backpack. Threw the coffee on the fox, and threw the backpack and ran in the house."

Scituate Police say there were two fox attacks within 12 hours on Tack Factory Pond Road and Old Oaken Bucket Road.

"We are very, very frightened," Steve said.

Kelli Rodgers was also attacked late Thursday afternoon in front of her home on Old Oaken Bucket Road.

"I had an animal latched onto me," Rodgers said. "I was kicking, pulling, crying."

The 34-year-old mother of two children says she was next to her mud room when the fox tried to come in.

"I think it was a fox," Rodgers said. "I’ve been looking at pictures, I can’t really remember. It had a pointy face, bushy tail. I couldn’t get it off. My 5 and 8-year-old were horrified."

Authorities say the two women were treated for the bite and scratch wounds, and are expected to be okay.

Scituate Police are asking the public to call them if they spot the fox, and to stay away from it.
