Encore Boston Harbor: New CEO of Wynn Resorts sits down with Boston 25

EVERETT, Mass. — Encore Boston Harbor is on schedule to open next summer.

Just seven months as CEO of Wynn Resorts, Matt Maddox came to Boston for an update on his company's latest project; Encore Boston Harbor.

The 43-year-old tells Boston 25 News anchor Blair Miller he is eager to put sale rumors to rest.

"I think most of them are from our competitors. The Boston property is not up for sale," said Maddox.
On his immediate attention, the Massachusetts Gaming Commissions' decision that was expected this summer on Wynn Resorts' suitability to run a casino. The commission is looking into the company, but also former CEO Steve Wynn, who stepped down after accusations of sexual misconduct.

The commission tells Boston 25 News investigators need more time. They were in Las Vegas last week, but believe they're in the "final phase of their investigation."

"We're continuing to cooperate with them fully so I expect that this will be wrapped up in the next couple of months," said Maddox.

Maddox doesn't seem concerned, pressing on with his $2.5 billion project and trying to move on from scandal.

"Our customers know Wynn as a company that delivers first-class product and five-star service. That's what they know and we won't let that change," he said.

Maddox announced Monday afternoon Encore Boston Harbor is donating $100,000 to help those in Lawrence impacted by last week's fires and explosions. They also plan to host a job fair in Lawrence to help people find jobs.
