Caught on camera: Brockton bandit takes truck for joy ride

BROCKTON, Mass. — A big rig bandit was caught on camera going for a joy ride at a Brockton business.

Fran Fistori has owned Modern Auto in Brockton for three decades and in all his years, he says he's never seen this before.

A thief hot-wired Fistori's dump truck and stole it after breaking into his fenced-in lot early Monday morning.

"He started it up, put it in reverse, drove it through the fence like he was driving in an open parking lot, continued it on and drove away," said Fistori.

Fistori says the thief tried stealing an Army truck first, but couldn't get it started. He then broke a window on a payloader, but again, couldn't get it started.

"He would have plowed over this, all hell would've broken loose if he got this payloader started," said Fistori.

The thief, described only as a young man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, stole the dump truck and took it on a joy ride around Brockton for an hour.

Fistori says what happened next baffled him.

"I was amazed at how much nerve this kid had to bring it back to the scene of the incident an hour later and then get out of the truck like nothing was going on. I was totally shocked to see it," he said.

This wasn't the only business hit. The thief also stole heavy duty equipment from other nearby businesses.

Brockton Police have not yet made an arrest.
