Blast sparked by mixing pool chemicals leads to hazmat response in Whitman

WHITMAN, Mass. — A homeowner in Whitman sparked a small explosion and fire by mixing pool chemicals in their sink.

Firefighters were called to 100 Glen Street just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

A hazardous materials team was called in because chemicals were involved. It's unclear what chemicals were mixed together.

The house has to be ventilated before the family was allowed back inside. No other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated.

No one was hurt.

Firefighters and the hazmat team were at the scene until early Sunday morning.
