Belichick offers 'heartbreaking' gratitude for fallen officer's support

FOXBOROUGH, mass. — New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick offered kind words for the fallen Weymouth police sergeant this week.

Officer Michael Chesna, who was killed Sunday in the line of duty, was an ardent Belichik fan, according to his obituary.

In response to the support expressed on behalf of the late Weymouth Police Sergeant, Belichick offered a statement mourning the officer.

“It is heartbreaking for this to be the circumstance to express my gratitude for Sergeant Chesna’s support," Belichick said in a statement sent to Boston 25 News. "My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the brave men and women who protect our safety.”

The Weymouth Police Chief announced Chesna's promotion to Sergeant earlier this week at a memorial event at Weymouth High School, honoring the two victims after a fatal shooting Sunday night.
