Ayer man accused of sexually assaulting child at NH campground

HANCOCK, N.H. — A Massachusetts man is being accused of sexually assaulting a child over a period of time in 2009.

Investigators said the alleged assault took place in a campground in Hancock, New Hampshire.

Dale Earl Cole, 65, of Ayer, Massachusetts, is facing three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault of a victim under 13 years of age.

According to police, Cole would let the child watch pornographic movies and offered cigarettes in exchange for sexual acts.

On July 22, Hancock Police applied for an arrest warrant for Cole. He was subsequently arrested on Aug 8 by Ayer Police and extradited back to New Hampshire, where he held on $10,000 cash bail.

On Wednesday, Cole was arraigned in Keene, N.H. and did not enter a plea.

A probable cause hearing is set for Cole on Aug 27, and he is again being held at $10,000 cash bail.

Police said Cole is a registered sex offender in Massachusetts and they said they have reason to believe this was not an isolated incident. Investigators said there could be other victims from other incidents at campgrounds in New Hampshire and other states.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Hancock Police at 603-525-4102.
