Amesbury Police warn residents after suspicious men approach children

AMESBURY, Mass. — Police in Amesbury have issued a warning to residents after two suspicious men were seen approaching children.

Wayne Dutch, who lives in the area, says he saw the commotion off Clinton Street.

"Two guys approached children in the driveway," said Dutch.

Authorities say the two suspicious men approached a child in a driveway, tried to speak with the child and lure him away.

"[Its a] very quiet neighborhood, we never have issues with anything, our dog just goes free and it's safe around here," said Dutch.

Off camera, a relative told Boston 25 News his 8-year-old brother was approached.

Jesse Rogers, who has lived in the neighborhood for 42 years, was stunned by the news but said a very similar situation happened next door, just two weeks ago.

"Someone said something about a green jeep or something," said Rogers. "Some guy walking approached little kids next door. Started up their driveway and someone chased them off."

In the most recent case, police say they are looking for an older model green colored Jeep Grand Cherokee with Massachusetts partial plates reading 15. Two men were seen inside the Jeep.

"People need to watch their kids, and unfortunately we live in a time where kids can’t just play in the driveway anymore," said Dutch.

Police are asking the public to call them with any tips or information that could lead to identifying the two men.

In the meantime, neighbors say they will be looking out for one another, as they always do.
